Spare Place is a website that maps out accessible, vacant shops across the UK for any aspiring pop-up culturalists to take over in order to inject some creativity back into their community. The site started as a collaboration between the Empty Shops Network—a resource for pop-up fanatics and business owners alike—and Open Sussex, a community-based platform aimed at opening up the use of free and open-source software in the wider public. And it’s fast becoming a vital resource for hyper-local regeneration, creative collaborations and a platform for artists to reappropriate the ruins of the financial crisis.
